I had the opportunity to try a new ceramic flat iron, the Hana Elite flat iron.
I have to admit that I have been using my other flat iron pretty much every time I've washed my hair lately and while many people will say that it's bad for my hair, I've come to the conclusion that, yes it might be, but considering my wild hair, the flat iron is my only way to go.
As I've complained here before, the main problem with my hair is that it's frizzy. And the iron has been the only thing able to tame this frizz. So while I know that I am not nourishing my hair by constantly using a flat iron, I am very happy with the way my hair looks these days.
So being the flat iron expert now, I gave the Hana a try. :)
What I love about these new irons is the size. I remember irons with plates so big that if you put a t-shirt between them you could iron it! This Hana is tiny, which makes it very easy to handle, portable, and perfect for detailing or layers or bangs.
While most irons out there are only ceramic coated, this one has 100% solid ceramic plates, which will never degrade or peel.
I decided to put it to the ultimate test: while I could have washed my hair, and then used a hair dryer, and then the flat iron, it would have been too easy for the iron to straighten my hair.
So I washed my hair at night, went to bed with it damp and used the flat iron the next morning, when my hair is so set in its weird fine waves that only another shampoo can help undo the crazy curls.
To give you an idea, this is my natural hair: it honestly doesn't know if it wants to be straight, wavy or curly.
Please don't say that it's beautiful because it's not. This was actually a good "bad hair day", it can get much worse depending on humidity and whatever other factors contribute to making my hair a mess!
So this is the hair I used the flat iron on, and it did a pretty good job!
I don't have a better picture because I didn't have makeup on yet...
This flat iron was able to smooth out the curls, and give me some shine, too.
I did have to use it a couple of times all over, and pause it a little longer on the more stubborn curls, but that's normal considering the impossible task at hand!
In the end, it was a winner!
And now it's your turn to be a winner... as the title of this post suggests, I am giving away this ceramic flat iron (retail price $189.00).
Rules to enter the contest are simple: just post a comment about your worst bad hair day.
The contest will end on Monday July 14th, 2008 at midnight EST. I will pick a random winner on Tuesday.
Good Luck! :)
Disclaimer: the prize is the actual flat iron that I've reviewed, which means it has been used one time, by me. Other than that, it's like new and in excellent conditions and it comes in the original packaging.

My daughter thinks I have more bad hair days, than good. She's probably right, LOL. She uses a flat iron all the time.
I think the worst is "convertible hair," which I could avoid if I wore a hat. But then I'd have "hat hair," not much better in my opinion!
I have had about 7 straight years of bad hair days... only recently figuring out how to deal with my superfrizzy, supercurly hair. I would say that I had the worst hair days when oour family went on vacation, to a very, very windy place. Not only did I still use my mother's 2-in-1 volumizing shampoo, apparently I didn;t believe in ponytail holders then!!
I straightened my hair last night actually, but my straightener definitely does NOT do the trick. I spent and hour and a half on it! ...I would definitely apperciate a straightener that quickens up the job a bit.
I have very fine pretty thin baby hair which gets oily if I don't wash it every day. One night my daughter was very sick and I had to take her to the ER at around 11pm. My husband stayed home with our son. I was awake for 30 hours, with no shower, holding a very sick 2 year old (pneumonia). My hair was so nasty I was embarrassed when anyone would come in the room.
That's all I got. So much for the wash your hair every other day...that just doesn't work for me.
About 9 years ago I permed my hair at a mom and pop salon. It was disastrous, my hair became at least 5x its original volume (not in a good way). It was also completely fried. I cut off all of it, left about 3 inches to grow out. A grievous day in my hair history.
Well, I have had plenty of bad hair days. My worst was in Jr. high school. I just had my hair done the day befor and while standing at the bus stop a very fine mist started to fall. Well, by the time I was at school, it was friz city. I was laughed at all day long. That was an awful day.
I have very thick hair that even with relaxer, I still have to flat iron it. Which my Chi died on me so you can imagine what it looks like.
Ugh. My bad hair day was a bad hair WEEK!
I had moved to Boston and couldn't find a decent hairdresser for highlights that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg. I had tried once place and didn't like it so I kept driving home to NH to get it done which wasn't the most convenient option.
A friend had her hair done at this place in the city and was happy so I decided to give it a shot. Made an appointment with the same guy for a Saturday. I arrived and after we talked about how I hated having such noticeable roots when my hair grew out, we decided to do a single process on my hair - never again. I ended up leaving with an almost strawberry blond color hair [picture this: http://images.popsugar.com/uploads12/jessica-5.8.jpg]
My hair is naturally more like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/starlighter5/IMG_1958.jpg [I'm on the right] - That picture was taken the night before I got my hair done.
I thought maybe it was me and I'd adjust... By Monday, I still hated it. I called and complained and was scheduled to come in that Tuesday to fix it. Fixing it was suppose to make it blonder. Instead, I walked out looking like a porn star, my hair was that white! See: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/starlighter5/IMG_1976.jpg and this was the back: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/starlighter5/IMG_1975.jpg
The back doesn't look as bad as it was in real life. The color wasn't even from top to bottom. It was hideous - I wore hats to school and work for the rest of the week [friends still remember my hat period!]. I babysat as usual that Thursday and thank god the Dad was able to help me out and scheduled an appointment that Friday with his Newbury St. hairdresser to fix things, which thankfully he was able to do!
Ugh, it was bad!
We must be related because I have hair similar to what yours is in the picture. I tell people my hair is friendly... it stands up and waves at the other side. heehee
Every day is a bad hair day for me. The humidity makes it worse.
My worst hair day is "any day". My hair is wavy and it goes any way it wants too. I would love to have a good flat iron. Thanks for the chance.
My worst hair day was the day I got bangs. My hair has been all one length my whole life. But my sister said I had a large forehead and talked me into letting her cut some bangs for me. Oh lord. I look the lawnmower got ahold of the top of my head. And to make matters worse, my hair is naturally curly, so the bangs all want to turn a certain way. Like I have wings on my forehead. It is awful. Maybe with a straightener, I could cease the wings. lol. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

Oh dear. I think there are few people who say, "Oh, I love my hair!" My hair can be my best asset or my worst. My worst bad hair day? I had experimented with coloring and decided that I would dye my hair the color it was when I was little; if it was good then, it would be good now.
It was horrible! I looked as though my place of employment was under a streetlamp.
horrible, horrible.
The worst bad hair days were when I was in beauty school and also this was the time me and my two best buddies and fellow students discovered hair color! Oh, how we went crazy experimenting with all kinds of different colors and one day I ended up with dark purple hair that looked terrible.
The other time was letting a girl talk me into a "body wave," not a perm she say's, just a little bit of wave...yeah right! She used these tight pink rods and I looked like a poodle when she was done. I just about died over that one. It took forever to get my hair back to somewhat normal.
Thank you for your giveaway!
I had a job interview that day and for some bizaare reason, my hair got all wavy and they stuck up like weeds. I decided to put wax to weigh them down a little. Bad move. It was a windy day. My hair was blown in all directions! And since I applied wax and couldn't manage to put my hair in the right places - it was an unpretty sight. :( I didn't think I impressed the HR personnel that day.

Aloha!
It's been brutally hot and humid here in HNL. My hair had grown down to below the middle of my back and washing it more often was no fun. Today, the stylist cut off about eight to ten inches.
Now, it's short enough so that I can try to style it myself instead of just pulling it into a ponytail!
My bad hair days were when I was around 12-13 yrs. old and I used "Sun-In" to lighten my hair. Needless to say, it was a BAD mistake as my hair turned orange!
My worst bad hair days happen when I sleep on wet hair. There is no going back in the morning, the only thing the undoes the weird bends in my hair (note- not actual curls, it's like my hair just makes a sharp turn) is a flat iron.
My mom had been complaining about this haircut I'd gotten for weeks, so we went to a salon to try to "fix it," but I ended up with hair similar to that of the weird girl from the Breakfast Club, except so much worse. It was terrible!
My bad hair days have been mainly the whole year. I'm letting my hair grow out. I've had it short for years. It has been in layers and I'm getting ready to give up. The top, short layers have to grow. The longer layers need to be cut. It's taking forever to grow and it has no style. Plus it's frizzy.
I have curly hair which I hated in high school. I got up extra early to straighten it one morning. Everyone at school kept asking me if I'd forgotten to do my hair that day! Augh!
I haven't straightened since then, but maybe this would be my ticket to sexy straight.

OK, I have long, very very thick and coarse, naturally curly hair!! When I was younger, it was down to my back. As a teen, one night we had a girls sleepover, and were involved in a huge pillow fight. When I awoke in the morning, I had the hugest, biggest KNOT in the back of my hair!!!!!!!!! My mom couldn't get it out, grandma came to try, it was a DISASTER!!! It was in there for days before my dad finally cut it out for me!!!! AAGH!! Since then I've had pretty good luck, but I'd love to flat iron it!!
Tangie
My worst hair day is forever photographed from school picture day. My sister "fixed" my hair and she did a terrible job! By the time I got my picture taken it was worse. I didn't know any better then, but we all laugh about it now.
Whenever there's the slightest chance of rain - it's my own little weather forecast system
Oh if only I had more pictures.. okay, not really I want to throw the pictures away of me having a bad hair day. I have fluffy, puffy, big fro hair if it's isn't tamed with conditioner, sleek stuff and the flat iron. Ooh it's crazy.. so you know those serious bad wisps you get on the side of your head? Well mine are there because when i have a baby (and I've had two so far) my hair all falls out so it takes forever to grow back in. If it's not flat ironed it's all over the place.. well I went out without flatting them and they stuck straight out like I had horns or something... oh nasty, nasty! Please enter me to win. Love flat irons.
My worst hair day is everyday..unless I wash it everyday.I am serious!Thank you for the giveaway!
I have to flat iron my hair every day too. It helps give some type of shine to my thick, unruly and not really shiny hair. I think I have the ceramic coated one you mentioned because it is peeling at the edges and so it sometimes grabs my hair when I'm using it and pulls it. Ouch! Your hair sure looked healthy and shiny after you used it so it must be great! I'd love it!
As an aside, what products do you use in your hair for heat protection? I just haven't found the best solution in that regard at all and I'm desperate!
Thanks for the giveaway!

Hi! I accidentally entered in the blog as annonymous. My story about the disastrous perm 10 years ago in a mom and pop shop was submitted by Daisy as the #5 entry. I am glad you had such good results with it. I would have to think long and hard before paying for this item, but now I once again have an opportunity to win such a fine product. Good luck to everyone. I feel blessed enough winning the necklace.
Yours,
Daisy
I have alot of bad hair days due to my unruly, bushy tresses. But they have relaxed some since I was a kid. i was rocking the Italian version of the 'fro in all my school pics. I use alot of product now to weigh it down!
My worst hair day: I have side swept bangs, so one day I went to the hair salon to get my bangs trimmed, and they trimmed too much. Needless to say, I had ridiculous bangs for about a week and a half...they were also too short and so weird that I couldn't pin them off my face. It was very traumatizing at the time.
My worst hair day occurred the day I went to get a new driver's license. I have a gigantic cowlick located right at the side of my forehead which I usually carefully straighten and then hairspray down (I spend more minutes on those hairs around that cowlick than any other part of my head, because the cowlick is unfortunately right at my part, so my hair tends to stick up around it). The wind was blowing pretty hard, so my carefully arranged hair was blown around my face. Nevertheless, I gamely braved the really crowded and sweaty department of driver's services center just to get a new license. However, I thought I could just use my old pic, so I wasn't that concerned about my hair. No such luck. I was required to take a new picture, with my disarrayed hair. Great.
So now, every time I take out my driver's license, I'm reminded of my worst bad hair day.

My worst hair day has been going on for the past few months now. I haven't colored my hair since being pregnant, so my roots/grays are showing. :/ My hair is also in that awful in-between stage because I got it cut in a short bob and now am growing it out a bit past shoulder length. I look about as put-together as I feel right now. ;P hehe
My worst bad hair days are when I don't have the time to wash, dry, set rollers, & spray. With two boys that takes forever! Mt beautician recommended me getting one of these for my hair type. I'd love to win it!

My worst hair days are when i am traveling in a place that has high humidity.
I have waist long hair,so straightening it takes me forever,i would love to try this,my worse hair day was when I had it plaited down my back at work as a nurse an a old lady grabbed me from behind an wouldnt let go,I had to call using the emergency call system pulling the cord,an the entire nursing staff an what doctors that where there stood at the door laughing,I said ,well if the entertainments over for the day will somebody please get me loose! needless to say I put it in a bun from that day forward, thanks

I think my worst hair day has been my entire life, except for the eighties when big, permed hair was in... I don't perm anymore, NEVER AGAIN!!! My hair is now more wavy and I just got the possible WORST cut of my life. Weird thing is I am getting a lot of compliments. Probably because I have given up the Ma Ingalls up everyday look! :) Anyhow my teenaged daughter keeps swearing to the Gods that if I just learned to use an iron I could be so "hot", and I would really like to try it!
Question:
I have alway wanted to wear my hair up. I have had long, hair simce 17. I have cut it shorter. Is there a reputable website you can direct me to where I can learn wear this hairstyle or learn to craft a French Braid. Embarassing to admit, a friend or family members has always done it for me. Then again, I've worn a French braid about 3 times in my life.
Thank you!
Daisy
My worse hair day was when I was 17; the day after I decided to take my home relaxed *dark brunette* hair and become a box platinum blonde. All seemed okay when I went to bed but woke up the next morning to find piles, and I mean piles of hair on my pillow -- it had all broken off leaving me looking like a chemo survivor. Spent the better part of the summer sweating it out in a very hot cheap wig. When it all grew back I suddenly had a newfound appreciation for my beautiful unruly, curly hair and now use a flat iron to tame it (which is how I found this review :)
I remember distinctly my worst hair day. I was 11 years old and my mom took me to a beauty college for a cheap haircut. They cut my bangs so, so short it looked ridiculous and I was incredibly embarassed! I had to use barettes to hold back my bangs for a couple of months!
Great giveaway - thanks for offering it!
I forgot to leave my email - sorry!
mtejen05@yahoo.com
I have curly hair, and it used to be long, but now it is short so it is basically an impossible task to tame it if i decide not to go to a beauty-salon. Since my hair is short now I need to go to a salon at least twice a week, which is bound to become a money problem.
I have to admit honestly, I don't remember one! I guess, Real men don't have bad hair days...
My worst hair days are around three weeks after my hair has been colored and my roots start showing.Whether it's in style or out to show roots, I hate it!!!
My worst hair day was when I had an overnight EEG. I had wires stuck to my head with glue and had slept and my hair was matted and frizzy in clumps. I was told I had to go to the main hospital cafeteria for breakfast before continuing the morning tests.I was such a site.
I have a bad hair day every day, very coarse and dry
my worst hair day was when I blow dried my hair straight, and by the end of the day when I looked in the mirror....ALL of it was back to ebing frizzy and curly!! no one even told me!!
qtelee143@yahoo.com
When I was about 17 I wanted to save some money and dye my own hair - bad idea! It turned out a gray purple color and I was so embarrased I wore a hat until I could make it to a salon to get it fixed. It took several weeks for it to look normal again and I ended up spending WAY more then if I were to go to the salon in the first place. Needless to say, I haven't dyed my own hair since.
Great prize by the way - I have super naturally curly hair and have to straighten it every day!

My worst bad hair day is when I was living in So. Korea and decided to go blonde. Big mistake. I ended up a big, thick, mess of yellow hair and really looked like a freak. Luckily, I didn't panic too bad and waited a few days before I bought a box of dark brown and re-colored by tangled web. For a few days though, I was looking quite wild.
Thanks for hosting. I have hair similar to yours and the frizz is at its peak this summer!

My worse hair day ending up lasting a few weeks. I went to a beauty salon for a trim and she chopped off 5 inches. I mean chopped so i had to wait for some to grow back to get it syled.
I would love to win this Hana flat iron.My hair is the poster child for bad hair days.So everyday is a bad hair day.
The worst hair time was when I was in the hospital for back surgery. I was to be there for only 4 days ,things went wrong and a second back surgery a week later. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks,my hair was not washed for all that time. I would look in the mirror and laugh(drugs)my hair was so bad!!I couldn't wait to wash it,I had to have help because I couldn't take a shower. Now I look back and laugh and thank goodness I have a wonderful family.
My daughter used her flat iron ,she showed me how to use it and I love how my hair comes out. I have fine hair but alot of it and my hair is long. With the humidity ,it looks dry, frizzy and lifeless unless I use the flat iron. I have to keep my hair long because I am only 4'11" and I look like a little kid. I would love to have my own flat iron ,please count me in to win
My hair is also fine and doesn't know whether to be straight, wavy or curly. My bad hair day is any day that's humid which is almost every day.
i think everyday is a bad hair day for me. So much frizz, so many knots it's just an unruly mess, most of the time i put a head band on to control it somewhat, the rest of the time i just let it fly free if i can't find my head band, hahah!
Lets just say that every once in a while my hair can be confused for a chia pet!
I have very, very thick hair and if there is a lot of humidity my hair will fluff up like you wouldn't believe. It kind of reminds me of the episode of Friends when Monica was in the Caribbean and her hair just poofed out and she looked like a wild woman.
I was in a Mid Summer Nights dream and the director thought my thick long hair would look great teased. I cannot even tell you what I tried to staighten it the next morning. It was a big crazy poof.
Until recently, I've pretty much had a bad hair life. My hair tends to be thin and straight-ish, with weird mini waves in all the wrong places. It's as though each section of hair wants to go in a different direction: the right side wants to chill with my right shoulder and the left side wants to talk to my neck. Meanwhile, the back wants to reach for the sky and the front just wants to lie there motionless, sticking to my forehead like tape.
The hair that frames my face is pretty much straight, but tends to curve out in a silly flip at the bottom. But the layer of hair directly beneath it tends to curl around my temples. The result is short, curly fly-aways that poke through my blow-dried straight locks and ruin whatever hair style I try to achieve. Naturally, humidity turns my hair into a limp, soggy, frizzy mess.
I bought a Sedu flat iron on sale several months ago, and it has successfully tamed the frizzies and flyaways. But sadly, my Sedu broke last week. A Hana flat iron would be perfect to tame my hair and avoid the frizz.
My absolute worst bad hair day was when I was in my early twenties and a friend gave me a home perm and my hair turned green!
my worst hair day is when they stopped making my usual hair color, and i had to buy a different brand, it looked like the same color but when i died my hair it came out purple! it had to go to work like that, it was terrible.
My worst hair day was my wedding day, even though the perm was 2 days before it was still awful on the day of the wedding, luckily my bridesmaid fixed it fine! (after a lot of tears!), but now I would much rather straighten my frizz and waves than add more curl!
My worst bad hair day was when I decided to go from medium brown to blond, at home!!! I looked like a giraffe! I decided I liked brown after all!
i have a bad hair year :( mine is always so frizzy and flyaway..im afraid when i go outside to garden the birds will land on my head thinking its a nest :(
My very worse bad hair day was when I was in kindergarden. I had hair down below my waist, my mom saw her friends cut her little girls hair into a pixie and asked her to do the same to me! That first day of going to school, I wore a scarf tied around my head, then instead of getting on the bus I hid under the front porch. My uncle came over to the house and heard me crying under the porch and took me to school! That was nearly 50 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday!
everyday is a bad hair day for me. I have really thick frizzy hair. Think lions mane and you get the idea. pretty much the same color too.
My worst bad hair day occurred many years ago when I had bangs. I tried to control the bangs by putting an exorbitant amount of hairspray in my hair. I did this on class picture day. Needless to say I will always be embarrassed to this day looking at that picture. I can't believe I used so much hairspray to try to control the bangs. It really was embarrassing and made my hair look disgusting. This is a great giveaway and I really hope I win. Thanks.
My worst bad hair day was the day after I let my husband cut my hair. I don't know what I was thinking, but it was a crooked mess. I had to make it through work (ponytail of course) until I could get to the salon to have it fixed. Kristie2 (at) comcast.net
I was on my way to an interview and I did my hair perfectly in the morning. During the day it snowed and rained & by the time I got to my interview, I looked like I got hit in a wind tunnel. Talk about frustrating !
My worst hair day occurred during my senior year in high school. One cloudy day as I was walking to school two blocks away from my house, I felt something hit the top of my head. Assuming that it was a raindrop, I rushed to get to school before my clothes and hair got soaked. After I got there and went to class, I noticed that people kept giving me strange looks but no one said anything to me. The mystery continued until my second class of the day, which I shared with my best friend. She had the grace to ask me flat-out what the white goop was in my hair! Sure enough, a bird had flown over as I was walking and POOPED right on the top of my head! It didn't help matters that I had just been voted "Most Attractive Girl" in the senior class only a week before this incident!
