is it really a bargain?

I read Allure magazine and I always get a chuckle out of their LUST / MUST section.

Let me give you an example. They list this pair of Sergio Rossi's shoes as a Lust at $710.

And then they list this similar pair by Gigi Favela as a Must, in case you can't afford the Sergio Rossi ones.

There is a small problem though, this second pair costs $450. Now, if I can afford a $450 pair of shoes, but the ones I really love are $710, I think I can shell out a few extra hundreds and get the pair I really want.

A real bargain has to make fashion and economic sense.

Another bad example of a bargain, for me, is the following:

Louis Vuitton Handbag $1,100

AKO Handbag $30

Now we're jumping on the other side of the fence, and buying a cheap and horrible product, more than likely poorly made and screaming "fake!". A bad deal overall. We definitely deserve better than this.

Here is the middle of the road, and my personal view of a real bargain.

Get inspiration from the more fashionable and expensive brands.

Coach Bleeker Patchwork Handbag $698

And if you can't afford them (or don't believe in spending $700 on handbags), then find something similar in a cheaper (but still fine) brand.

Lucky Brand Jeans Chevron Patchwork Tote $148

I have to admit, I always wish they did cheaper budget alternatives in those magazines. I notice that too - the 'splurg' is ridiculously expensive while the 'budget' piece is still a month of groceries and gas money. :/

There are some really great bags out there that are made well, are very fashionable, and not logo'd to death. They will set you back a few hundred dollars, but they'll be in for years.

Some examples are:
Botkier (I'm LOVING them right now)
Kooba
Rebecca Minkoff

If you're lucky (prowl the internet and high end dept. stores) you might get a bag for pre-sale or last call sales and get a really good deal!
Just a thought!
